What's in Settings

Updated 2026-10-18

Tap Settings (the gear icon at the top of the home screen). Every switch and option in Steady is there, in eight sections: Training, Reminders, Goal and streak, Appearance, Privacy, Your data, Purchases and About. Tap the back arrow at the top to return to the home screen.

Training

  • Sound cues: a short, quiet tone at each phase change.
  • Vibration cues: a vibration at each phase change.
  • Pocket mode: vibration only, so you can follow a session with the screen off. While it's on, the two switches above are greyed out, and Sound cues says "Sound is off while pocket mode is on." See How to use pocket mode.
  • Voice cues: "Says each step out loud with a voice stored on this phone." When it's on, Steady says the phase word, for example "Squeeze" or "Relax", as each phase starts. It's off to begin with. Steady uses only a text-to-speech voice that's stored on your phone and needs no internet connection. If your phone has none for English, the switch stays off and says No offline voice on this phone. While pocket mode is on, the switch is greyed out and says "Voice is off while pocket mode is on." You can also switch it during a session with Voice on / Voice off at the top of the session screen. It's the same setting.
  • How to do it: "The steps again, with a short practice." It opens the steps for each squeeze and Try 3 practice squeezes. The practice isn't added to your history. See How to do it: the squeeze, step by step.

You chose sound and vibration the first time you opened Steady. You can change them here at any time.

Reminders

Add up to three daily reminders, each with its own time, text and switch. Each reminder has Change time, Edit text and Delete.

These two options appear once you have at least one reminder.

  • Skip reminders once today is done: "Done means one session today, or your daily goal if you set one." It's on to begin with. Once today is done, today's other reminders don't appear.
  • Remind me again once: "One more reminder if today is not done yet." It's off to begin with. When it's on, choose under Remind me again after: 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours.

See How to set daily reminders.

Goal and streak

  • Daily goal: a field you type in. Empty, it says "Off. Type a whole number from 1 to 6, or leave it empty." Type a whole number from 1 to 6 and it's saved as you type; the field then says "Sessions a day. Clear it to turn the daily goal off.", and the home screen and widget show a count, for example 2 of 3 today. Clear the number to turn the goal off. See How to set a daily goal.
  • Streak: choose Every day ("Days in a row with a session", the starting choice), Days per week (Steady asks how many days with a session keep a week in the streak, from 1 to 7, with nothing chosen for you; weeks run Monday to Sunday) or Hide streak ("No streak on Home, the widget or History. The calendar stays."). See How does my streak work?

Appearance

Choose how Steady looks:

  • System default: follows your phone's light or dark setting. This is the starting choice.
  • Light: always light.
  • Dark: always dark.

The change shows straight away.

Privacy

  • Lock Steady: "Steady opens only after your phone's fingerprint, face or screen lock." It's off to begin with, and your phone asks you to confirm it's you when you turn it on or off. If your phone has no screen lock, the row says Set a screen lock on your phone first. While it's on, Lock again lets you choose As soon as you leave Steady, After 1 minute away or After 5 minutes away. See How to lock Steady with your fingerprint or screen lock.
  • While Lock Steady is on, Discreet widget (and, on Android 13 and newer, Hide Steady in recent apps preview) shows as on and greyed out, with the note "Always on while Lock Steady is on."
  • Hide Steady in recent apps preview: when it's on, your phone's app switcher shows a blank card for Steady instead of the screen. This needs Android 13 or newer. On older versions, the option is greyed out and says so.
  • Discreet widget: "Shows only “Steady · today's session”, with no day or streak." When it's on, the home-screen widget shows nothing but that line. It's off to begin with, and the widget changes as soon as you switch it. See How to add the Steady widget to your home screen.
  • Privacy notice: a short summary of what Steady stores and where. Tap Close to go back. See Where is my Steady data kept?

Your data

Free for everyone. Each row opens your phone's own file picker, so you choose where the file goes:

  • Export as spreadsheet (CSV): every session you finished, one row each, for a spreadsheet app.
  • Export as PDF: a plain Training record with the date, session and length of each session, and the notice about what Steady is on every page.
  • Save a backup: your sessions and your routines in one file.
  • Restore from a backup: adds the sessions and routines from a backup file to this phone, after a summary. Nothing is deleted.

Under them: "Files are saved where you choose. Steady doesn't upload them." See How to export, back up and restore your Steady data.

Purchases

  • Steady Pro: while you don't have Pro, it says All training plans and up to 10 routines and opens the Steady Pro screen. Pro also unlocks days 4 to 28 of Steady 28 (your first routine is free without it). Once you have Pro, it says Active on this phone, or, while a free trial runs, "Trial ends on" and the date.
  • Restore purchases: checks Google Play again for a Pro purchase on your Google account.
  • Change or cancel in Google Play: opens your Steady subscription in the Play Store.

See How to subscribe, cancel or restore Steady Pro.

About

The notice about what Steady is, shown in full: "Steady is a personal exercise trainer and diary. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for consulting a qualified healthcare professional. If you have symptoms or health concerns, please speak with your doctor."

Under it, Version shows which version of Steady you have.

Open-source licences ("The fonts in this app and their licences") opens a list of the fonts Steady includes, each under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, with the full licence texts. It works without an internet connection.

Your settings are stored only on this phone, like your training history. They aren't part of a backup file.
